The Academic Success Foundation Partners with Agnes Ayariga Atanga to Deliver the EmpowerHer Project

In a powerful collaboration for community transformation, The Academic Success Foundation (TASF) partnered with Agnes Ayariga Atanga, a passionate changemaker and fellow of the Women’s Fellowship by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, to implement the EmpowerHer Project in three illegal mining-affected communities in Ghana’s Upper East Region.

This initiative aimed to build the resilience and economic independence of women whose lives and livelihoods have been disrupted by illegal mining activities. Through the partnership, 323 women were trained in vocational skills, entrepreneurship, mental health awareness, and advocacy.

The program was not only about skills acquisition but also about healing, rebuilding confidence, and creating pathways to sustainable livelihoods. Workshops were delivered in local languages and tailored to the unique needs of each community, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.

Highlights of the project included:

  • Training in eco-friendly income-generating activities such as soap-making, shea processing, and sustainable agriculture
  • Mental health sessions focusing on emotional resilience and well-being
  • Advocacy durbars engaging community leaders and local authorities on the impact of illegal mining and women’s rights
  • Distribution of startup kits and post-training support to help women launch their businesses

The EmpowerHer Project stands as a testament to what can be achieved when grassroots leadership, local expertise, and community trust come together. The Academic Success Foundation is proud to have been part of this life-changing initiative, and we are deeply grateful to Agnes for her leadership and vision.

Together, we are proving that empowering women is key to building stronger, more resilient communities.
