Introducing EcoScan AI – Predictive Intelligence for Environmental Law Enforcement

We are excited to spotlight one of our most innovative projects to date—EcoScan AI: Predictive Intelligence for Environmental Law Enforcement. Developed under The Academic Success Foundation’s youth innovation stream, this project is using the power of artificial intelligence to support the fight against environmental crimes, particularly illegal mining in Ghana.

EcoScan AI is a multi-faceted initiative designed to improve real-time reporting, data analysis, and community engagement in the protection of our environment. The project was conceptualized in response to the devastating impact of illegal mining activities on rural communities, especially in the Upper East Region.

The project has three core outputs:

AI-Powered Mobile Reporting App

Co-designed with youth, this tool allows community members to report environmental violations—such as illegal mining or deforestation—in real time using mobile phones. Reports are geo-tagged and fed into a centralized data system for analysis and response.

Community-Based AI Data Hub

This hub serves as a center for storing, processing, and analyzing environmental crime data. Youth are trained in AI and forensic data analysis to track trends and generate insights to support law enforcement and advocacy.

Multilingual AI Chatbot

A friendly, accessible chatbot that educates community members about their environmental rights, supports whistleblowers, and provides information in multiple local languages.

EcoScan AI is more than a tech project—it’s a movement driven by young innovators and changemakers who believe in using data and emerging technologies to protect our land, water, and future generations. Through this project, we are equipping communities with the tools to act, speak up, and lead.

We are currently seeking partners to help us scale this solution across more regions in Ghana and beyond. If you’re interested in joining this mission for environmental justice, reach out to us today!
